RAM became its own brand in 2009, but the trucks underneath wear the same DNA they've had since the 1994 redesign: solid axles where it matters, a coil-spring rear that drives better than competitors' leaf-spring setups, and the Cummins 6.7L diesel that has its own cult following. The HEMI 5.7L and the EcoDiesel round out the gas and small-diesel options. Around New Braunfels, RAMs work — towing trailers, hauling materials, doing the daily contractor commute. Frank's Automotive services RAM in New Braunfels with diesel-specific diagnostic capability and gas truck depth.

Common RAM issues we see

RAM-specific patterns:

  • Cummins 6.7L diesel — EGR cooler clogging, EGR valve, DPF (diesel particulate filter) regeneration issues, injector wear on high-mileage trucks. Cummins service is technical and where many shops get out of their depth; we don't
  • HEMI tick (5.7L V8) — sometimes harmless lifter noise, sometimes worn cam follower / lifter; diagnostic determines which
  • HEMI MDS (multi-displacement system) — similar concept to GM AFM, similar lifter failure pattern on some years; diagnostic-driven decision on repair
  • Death wobble — 4WD RAM 2500/3500 with worn steering linkage components; we'll find the cause and replace the right part (often track bar, drag link, or steering stabilizer)
  • 65RFE / 66RFE transmission torque-converter shudder — fluid flush often catches it
  • EcoDiesel 3.0L — oil cooler, EGR cooler issues at high mileage
  • Hood paint peeling / fading — known on certain years; we can refinish in the body shop
