Mercedes-Benz built its reputation on over-engineered cars, and that engineering is exactly what makes proper service important. A Mercedes is designed to do 300,000 miles when maintained correctly — and to become a money pit when neglected. The dealership knows how to service them; the dealership also knows what they can charge. Frank's Automotive in New Braunfels does Mercedes service with the same diagnostic capability (Star Diagnosis / XENTRY-equivalent through our Bosch platform) at independent-shop labor rates.
Common Mercedes-Benz issues we see
The patterns we see most:
- Air suspension (Airmatic / ADS) — air bags, compressor, ride-height sensors all wear over time. Common on S-Class, GL/GLE/GLS, ML-Class
- Engine mount failures — fluid-filled mounts collapse, causing vibration at idle and harsh shifts. Standard wear item around 80,000-120,000 miles
- Transmission valve body / conductor plate — 722.9 7G-Tronic transmission, common service item. Often fixes harsh shifting before transmission replacement is needed
- Differential and transfer case fluid — Mercedes calls these "fill-for-life," which means "fill until they break"; we service them on a real schedule
- Crankshaft position sensor failures — intermittent stalling, no-start
- Balance shaft / idler gear failure on M272 V6 (early 2005-2008 models) — known design issue
- Oil leaks at valve covers, rear main seal, oil cooler seals — common at 100,000+ miles
