Kia issues mirror Hyundai's closely:
- Theta II 2.0L and 2.4L engines (Sorento, Optima, Sportage in the 2011-2019 range) share the oil-consumption and rod-bearing issues with Hyundai's lineup. Document oil consumption if you're in those model years; service campaigns may apply
- GDI carbon buildup on intake valves — direct-injected engines (most Optima / K5 turbo, Sportage turbo, Telluride V6) build up carbon over time. Walnut blasting clears it
- Knock sensor / ECM issues triggering check-engine lights or limp mode — sometimes covered under campaign
- Theft-related ignition damage — Kia (and Hyundai) without engine immobilizers in certain 2011-2021 years have been targeted; we repair ignition damage and can install aftermarket immobilizer kits
- AC compressor and condenser failures common across the lineup
- Catalytic converter failures on older 4-cylinder Optima and Forte
