GMC sits at the upscale end of GM's truck lineup — the Sierra is mechanically the Silverado's twin in most respects, but trimmed and outfitted for a different buyer. The Yukon, Acadia, and Terrain round out a lineup that skews toward families and crews wanting capability with a more refined interior. Most of what we know about Chevrolet service applies to GMC; the platforms, drivetrains, and most known issues are shared. Frank's Automotive services GMC in New Braunfels with the same diagnostic capability as the dealership.
Common GMC issues we see
GMC shares its mechanical patterns with Chevrolet:
- AFM (Active Fuel Management) lifter failure on 5.3L and 6.2L V8 Sierras and Yukons — same engine family as Chevrolet, same failure pattern. AFM-delete tuning available as part of the repair
- Duramax diesel issues in Sierra HD — injector wear at high mileage, EGR issues
- 6L80 / 6L90 transmission shudder — torque-converter fluid contamination; fluid flush and valve-body service
- Acadia / Terrain 2.4L oil consumption (LE5 / LEA engines)
- Power steering rack leaks on Sierra and Yukon
- HVAC actuator failures — clicking from behind the dash, blend door not switching between hot and cold
- Stabilitrak / Traction Control warning — often a wheel speed sensor or BCM issue
What we offer for GMC owners
- Full-spectrum service for Sierra, Yukon, Acadia, Terrain, Canyon
- AFM lifter replacement + delete tune
- Duramax diesel service
- Fleet repair plans (Sierra fleets are common for HVAC, plumbing, and other trade contractors in Comal County)
