- Timing chain tensioner failure on 2.0T TSI (especially MK6 Jetta / GTI / Passat in 2008-2014 era) — leads to chain stretch, rattle, eventual catastrophic failure if ignored
- Carbon buildup on intake valves — every direct-injected VW. Walnut blasting every 50,000-80,000 miles restores performance
- Water pump assembly (integrated thermostat/pump) — fails around 60,000-100,000 miles
- PCV system failure — oil consumption, rough idle, sometimes vacuum-leak codes
- DSG / DCT transmission service — VW calls for fluid service intervals; skip them and the mechatronic unit eventually fails
