Honda has built one of the most loyal customer bases in the industry by making cars that just work — and keep working. Civics, Accords, CR-Vs, and Pilots are the daily drivers of New Braunfels and the surrounding Comal County, and the families that buy them tend to keep them for a decade or more. Frank's Automotive services Honda with the same attention to factory specs as the dealer, at independent-shop pricing.
Common Honda issues we see
Honda's engineering is consistent, which means the failure patterns are predictable:
- VTC actuator rattle on cold starts (especially K-series engines) — a brief grinding sound that signals the variable cam-timing actuator is worn. Honda issued service bulletins for this; we repair to spec
- AC compressor failures on Civic / Accord — clutch noise or no cold air; the compressor and accumulator usually go together
- Transmission cooler service — for 2003-2008 Pilots / Odysseys / Accord V6s, the factory transmission cooler is undersized. Aftermarket cooler upgrade is one of the cheapest ways to extend transmission life
- Power steering pump whine — Honda PS fluid is specific; using ATF as a substitute kills the pump
- Idle air control valve sticking, causing rough idle on older fuel-injected models
- Earth Dreams oil dilution (CR-V, Civic 1.5T) — fuel mixing into the engine oil in cold starts; check level often and don't extend oil-change intervals
What we offer for Honda owners
- Scheduled maintenance to Honda's spec
- Honda-specific transmission fluid (Honda ATF-DW1) — not "universal" ATF that kills Honda transmissions
- Timing belt service on older V6s (mainly Pilot / Odyssey)
- Brake repair, check engine light diagnostics, oil changes
- Collision work including PDR for hail damage
